Application:
MOPS (CAS: 1132-61-2) is frequently used as a buffering agent in biology and biochemistry, was introduced by Good et al. in the 1960s. MOPS is used in biochemical diagnostic kits, DNA/RNA extractiion kits and PCR diagnostic kits, used as a buffer in cell culture media, used in protein purification, used as a running buffer in electrophoresis and chromatography. MOPS is a structural analog to MES (CAS: 4432-31-9). Its chemical structure contains a morpholine ring. HEPES (CAS: 7365-45-9) is a similar pH buffering compound that contains a piperazine ring. With a pKa of 7.20, MOPS is an excellent buffer for many biological systems at near-neutral pH. It has been tested and recommended for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
