Fmoc-L-Alanine Monohydrate (Fmoc-L-Ala-OH∙H2O) (CAS: 35661-39-3) is an amino acid derivative, is an Fmoc-protected form of L-Alanine. Fmoc-amino acids, used in peptide synthesis, used as an organic synthesis intermediate, pharmaceutical intermediate, biochemical reagent or chemical reagent. Fmoc-L-Alanine Monohydrate is potentially useful for proteomics studies and solid phase peptide synthesis techniques. Alanine is one of the simplest amino acids - a methyl group as the side chain. This small side chain confers a high degree of flexibility when incorporated into a polypeptide chain. The Fmoc group is typically removed with a base such as pyridine - an orthogonal de-protection strategy to the acid labilie Boc group. Preparation: Na2CO3 (29.8g, 280.9mmol) and 9-fluorene methyl-N-succinimide carbonate (28.4g, 84.27mmol) were added to L-alanine (5g, 56.18mmol) of water/dioxane (v/v = 1/1,400mL) solution, stirring at room temperature for 18h, filtering, Et2O extraction (100mL×3), water phase acidification with concentrated hydrochloric acid, ethyl acetate extraction (150mL×3), combining organic phase, drying with Na2SO4, concentration, 17.3g white solid, yield: 99%.
