Application:
3,3-Pentamethylene Glutarimide (CAI) (CAS: 1130-32-1) is an intermediate of Gabapentin (CAS: 60142-96-3). Gabapentin is a second- generation antiepileptic drug (AED) known under the proprietary brand name of Neurontin® (Pfizer, New York, NY) in the UK and USA, used as an anticonvulsant. Amino acid structurally related to γ-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), designed to cross the blood brain barrier. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that is chemically unrelated to any other anticonvulsant or mood regulating medication. Gabapentin has an inhibitory effect on partial seizures and subsequent systemic tonic-clonic seizures. Additional treatment for partial seizures that cannot be satisfactorily controlled or tolerated with conventional anticonvulsants, either alone or in combination, and for subsequent systemic seizures.
