Application:

6-Mercaptopurine (CAS: 50-44-2) is a widely used antileukemic agent and immunosuppressive drug that inhibits de novo purine synthesis through incorporation of thiopurine methyltransferase metabolites into DNA and RNA. 6-Mercaptopurine is a purine analogue which acts as an antagonist of the endogenous purines and has been widely used as antileukemic agent and immunosuppressive drug. Mercaptopurine inhibits purine nucleotide synthesis and metabolism by inhibiting an enzyme called Phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate amidotransferase (PRPP Amidotransferase). Mercaptopurine interferes with nucleotide interconversion and glycoprotein synthesis. Mercaptopurine, sold under the brand name Purinethol, specifically it is used to treat acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.
