5-(Piperazin-1-yl)benzofuran-2-Carboxamide (CAS: 183288-46-2) is an intermediate in the synthesis of API (CAS: 163521-08-2). (CAS: 163521-08-2) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and partial serotonin receptor agonist which is used in the therapy of major depressive disorders. (CAS: 163521-08-2) is a serotonergic antidepressant, was approved by the FDA for use in the United States to treat major depressive disorder in 2011. The mechanism of the antidepressant effect of (CAS: 163521-08-2) is not fully understood but is thought to be related to its enhancement of serotonergic activity in the CNS through selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake.
